About Us

History of Almadina

Almadina Hospital emerged in response to the stark healthcare disparities and challenges faced by communities in developing countries, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa. Founded in 1996 in Zaria, Kaduna state, Nigeria, Almadina aimed to elevate healthcare delivery standards through robust supply chains, partnerships with reputable manufacturers, and quality customer service.

In 2006, Almadina Pharmacy secured authorization from IDA Foundation, a global supplier of affordable healthcare, to import and distribute a wide range of generic drugs, consumables, and scientific equipment. This partnership enabled Almadina to combat the prevalence of substandard drugs, ensuring the provision of safe and effective healthcare products to its customers.

Over time, Almadina Pharmacy evolved into a wholesale procurement operation, servicing NGOs, government agencies, and private establishments with essential medical supplies. The company forged strong partnerships with local and international manufacturers, transporters, and insurance brokers to facilitate its operations.

In response to the community’s growing need for comprehensive primary healthcare, Almadina Clinic was established as an extension of the pharmacy. Starting as a backroom consulting service, the clinic gradually expanded into a fully-fledged outpatient department (OPD) and, later, an inpatient facility nearing completion. Qualified general practitioners and specialist physicians provided services, with a focus on inclusivity—treating both paying and underprivileged patients, the latter receiving treatment free of charge.

Almadina Clinic and Pharmacy were accredited as primary and secondary providers under the National Health Insurance Scheme in 2005, further expanding access to healthcare services. The facilities included procurement and logistics divisions, retail and wholesale pharmaceutical divisions, drug storage facilities, a well-equipped OPD, a medical diagnostic laboratory, and an 18-bed inpatient facility complete with delivery room and operating theatre.

In 2023, building upon its commitment to healthcare excellence and community service, Almadina Hospital expanded its services with the establishment of the Almadina College of Nursing Sciences. This new venture aimed to address the critical need for skilled healthcare professionals and further contribute to the enhancement of healthcare delivery in the region.
